CLIC Workforce Development

Workforce Development

Alternative approaches to cybersecurity workforce development are desperately needed to overcome the gap between the number of unfilled positions and the number of competent candidates. Current commercial workforce development offerings exacerbate this problem by focusing on specialists in short supply, as well as ignoring advancements in learning science. This results in courses employing a “one-size fits all” approach.

Additional workforce challenges include organizations struggling to find, develop, and retain cybersecurity talent; an aging workforce of highly skilled and experienced workers; difficulties in attracting new and diverse talent; closing gaps in workers' skills and credentials; investing in talent that can keep pace with the latest industry advances; and implementing training models that effectively develop, re-skill, and/or up-skill.
