Lieutenant Commander Sapienza is currently a graduate student at MIT in the System Design and Management Program and a research assistant for Cybersecurity at MIT Sloan.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned an Ensign from the United States Naval Academy in 2008. In 2009, he earned his Master of Science in Applied Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School.
LCDR Sapienza reported aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA as a construction manager in 2010 where he managed over $40 million in military construction and infrastructure projects. In 2012, he reported to Provincial Reconstruction Team Uruzgan, where he served in Afghanistan as the Engineering Officer overseeing local construction. Following that, he reported aboard Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FOUR in June 2013 and filled positions of Future Operations Officer, Company Commander, and Officer-in-Charge. In 2015, he served as the Presidential Retreat Camp David’s Public Works Officer where he managed the Retreat’s facilities and utility systems. In 2017, he served as aide to the Commander of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Headquarters, the enterprise responsible for the Navy and Marine Corps’ facilities and infrastructure life-cycle management.
He is a licensed professional engineer in the State of California, and DAWIA Contracting Level II certified.
